Call for Stories: Out With Dad

Out With Dad's call for story submissions remains open. They are still looking for one more story with a specific tone for an important upcoming scene. The missing story needs to be rather grim. A story that is quite unlike the loving and accepting story Rose has experienced.

The original call for story submissions:

http://www.outwithdad.com/making-out/tell-us-your-story

Extended call for story submissions:

For the third story, they're looking for the right “tone” that would proceed Rose telling her own story. The missing story needs to illustrate to Rose, Nathan and our audience an example of the struggles and challenges faced my many growing up LGBTQ or their loved ones. They're looking for something rather grim. Rather dark. The ugly side of homophobia.

Please email your story to: storysubmission@outwithdad.com.

Unless you specifically state otherwise, your identity will be kept confidential. They’d love to include your name, if you'd like, in the end credits of the episode as a guest writer.

Author Seeks Agent for Screenplay Based Off Published Book

Screenwriter/author seeking representation for new LGBT/comedy screenplay based off my published novel "Got Therapy?" Please contact me (Bobby Shue) by phone or e-mail: bobbyshue.author@gmail.com or 469.328.8912

Synopsis of screenplay: When most people have problems, they usually seek help from shrinks. Got Therapy? “Why spend money for a therapist when you can get answers from a reputable fortune teller for half the price of your co-pay?” Angela Day would say. Angela isn’t your traditional mother, always being ridiculed for being a single, divorced mother of two. When Angela’s son, Atticus Day, moves back home to regroup himself, she sends him to her local psychic for therapy. The family’s unorthodox search for sanity through a local psychic leads to a whirlwind of unpredictable events.

To get a general idea of my screenplay based off my book you can visit Barnes & Noble website here for an overview.

Thinkers and Trouble Makers: Panel Discussion of Queer Women of Color Activists (California)

Date: 11 June 2011

The 7th annual Queer Women of Color Film Festival world premieres 38 new short films by Bay Area artists this June 10-12, 2011 at the Brava Theater in San Francisco.

The Festival Focus, “Igniting the Intersections”, features a capstone Panel Discussion “Thinkers and Troublemakers: Queer Women of Color Activists” on Saturday, June 11 at 1:00pm. This roundtable of veteran queer women of color activists and artists includes Jewelle Gomez, Ericka Huggins, Olga Talamante, Pratibha Parmar and Helen Zia. Standing at the intersections of gender, sexuality, nationality, race/ethnicity and culture, these deep thinkers, take-charge doers, and long-time troublemakers will illustrate the paths that have led to our current political and economic crossroads, and illuminate our way forward to social justice.

Jewelle Gomez, a Native American and Black award-winning writer/playwright, is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her highly celebrated novel, The Gilda Stories and working on her much-anticipated world premiere of her new play Waiting For Giovanni.

Dr. Ericka Huggins, a former political prisoner and currently a Professor of Women’s Studies, led the Black Panther Party for 11 years, the longest tenure held by any woman in the party’s history. Her work has made tangible strides in the fight against racism, economic injustice and the prison industrial complex.

Pratibha Parmar, a Kenyan-born British South Asian filmmaker, creates evocative and sexy films about social justice. She has over 20 years of experience as a filmmaker and is celebrated for her documentary Warrior Marks with Alice Walker, and her most recent film, Nina’s Heavenly Delights, is an award-winning stunner.

Olga Talamante, the Executive Director of the Chicana/Latina Foundation, was awarded “the most influential Latina in the Bay Area.” Held as a political prisoner in 1970s Argentina until powerful networks of people joined efforts to liberate her, she has dedicated her life to fighting for social justice.

Helen Zia, a second generation Chinese American and award-winning journalist, has inspired young activists and writers to work for social change. Her articles, and scholarly and creative writing, have brought the voices and political movements of Asian American communities to global visibility.

Change begins with those who have the courage to take risks and who are boldly and unapologetically determined to transform systems of oppression. They are leaders who use the poetics and politics of their bodies and lives to obliterate injustice. They are the activists and artists who empower new generations to embrace the truth of our diasporic history and indigenous beauty. QWOCMAP is honored to welcome these courageous feminist, queer, women of color activists and artists. This free event is open to the public and guaranteed to educate, inspire and even tickle us with humor to galvanize social change.

WHEN: SATURDAY, JUNE 11

WHERE: Brava Theater, 2789 24th Street at York, San Francisco

PRICE: All Screenings and Receptions are FREE

Call For Multi-media Submissions: ‘Resilience’ A Queer Collaborative Art Installation (Canada)

Deadline: 14 February 2011

Call For Submissions: ‘Resilience’ A Queer Collaborative Art Installation in partnership with Mayworks

What: a collaborative visual art installation (photography, short video and multi-media arts) that celebrates Toronto’s LGBTTQ2SIA spectrum people as working people, as bodies of resilience and resistance, and as storytellers. This installation will be part of the Mayworks Festival this year (exhibiting from May 12-19th) (www.mayworks.ca),

Why: As queer people, it often feels like we are either resisting outright homophobic and transphobic violence, or we are resisting being sucked into the mainstream. We can do better.

This exhibit aims to celebrate queer resistance, express struggles in the workplace, challenge ideas of heteronormativity, identity roles, and much more.

Who: The People Project is an organization that believes in the power of arts and culture-building to empower communities against homophobic and transphobic violence. This exhibit is being curated by the People Project, the Hispanic Development Council and the Mayworks Festival. And hopefully features you!

We are encouraging young queer artists of Toronto to send us submissions by Monday February 14th, 12am.

8-10 selected artists will have their work exhibited during a Community celebration (likely at the raging spoon) and will receive a $100 honorarium.

If Interested, please follow these five easy steps and email (peopleprojectsubmissions@gmail.com)

1) 50-100 words about why you think your art fits into the theme of the exhibit
2) Photos of your work (1-4 pieces)
