Call for Submissions from Lesbian/ Bisexual Female Poets: Lady Business (Assaracus Journal)
Deadline: 31 August 2011
We’re publishing a special issue called ASSARACUS: LADY BUSINESS which will feature the work of ten lesbian or bisexual female poets. The submission period for this issue is open through August 31, 2011. To our sapphic sisters – follow the same submission requirements listed below… and good luck!
Guidelines:
In order to be considered for publication in Assaracus, please submit a significant selection of your work in DOC or DOCX format to siblingrivalrypress@gmail.com with the subject line “Assaracus Submission” and your name (“Assaracus Submission Levi Johnston,” for example). Again, make sure it’s during January, May, or September. How you define “significant” is up to you. The definition of gay poetry is also subjective. Work that has been previously posted on a personal website is welcome. Previously published work is also acceptable so long as you retain the rights to republish.
Each issue will be built around the selected poets and will showcase the variety within the queer poetry community. We’re not looking for any one style or form. In fact, we want each issue to represent multiple poetic forms. The chosen poets will retain all rights to their work, will receive a free print copy of the issue, and will be endlessly promoted throughout the literary universe.
Due to the small number of poets featured in each issue, we cannot accept every submission. Do not let this deter you. Because we’re always working on future issues, submissions that were declined once might be accepted at a later date depending on the “feel” of the issue we’re currently designing.
Please note that poems with lengthy lines may, as is the case in every publication, require editing to fit our page dimensions. As a general rule, however, we will not attempt to edit your work to fit our standards. The purpose of Assaracus is to offer that grand stage for gay poets – not to morph your work into the kind of poetry our editor enjoys. We’ll give you the microphone. You do the singing.
Contributors will receive proofs of their Assaracus sections prior to print.
We welcome submissions from gay poets with various publishing experience, from old masters to spring chickens. We want everyone from Dennis Cooper to the freshman at the University of Ohio who scribbles love poems about in Biology 101.

Gender-Bender Stories Welcomed: All Access Pass Rock & Roll Er0tica Anthology
Backstage Passes editor Amelia G is reading for a sequel to her anthology of rock and roll er0tica, called All Access Pass. Below are general fiction guidelines for Blue Blood fiction projects. For this book in specific, music must play a central role in the story. Events could take place at a punk club or an outdoor festival, characters may be musicians, music may just really speak to a particular character, but it needs to be important. Stories ranging from balls-out memoir or entirely fantastical vampire s3x are all fine, within the appropriate theme and quality standards.

The All Access Pass anthology is seeking erotic stories with a counterculture feel — Gothic, industrial, techno, rave, punk, metal, dyke, mystery, gangster, hard-boiled, science fiction, cyberpunk, steampunk, vampire, werewolf, medieval etc. At the moment, our needs are for stories primarily from a male or female heteros3xual viewpoint, lesbian viewpoint, or female bis3xual viewpoint. Often, we can also place male hom0sexual and gender bender stories in anthologies. We look for work between 2,000 and 7,500 words. Most accepted fiction is shorter than 4,000 words. Death and horror elements are acceptable so long as they do not prevent the piece from being s3x-positive. Characters may die but not as part of the s3xuality. Negative attitudes about s3xuality are not fine. All s3x must be c0nsensual and ar0using.
If you can write genuinely arousing fiction which still works as a story, do contact us. Payment is net 60 on on-sale date and we generally purchase first worldwide rights (exclusive from acceptance to one year after publication) along with nonexclusive reprint rights.
$50 first run + reprint rights, $25 reprints.

BoLT magazine has always been proud of trying to expand, to look past horizons and leap over barriers. So far, we have focused on our Irish LGBTQ community, and most of our pieces have been from people living on the island of Ireland. For issue 8 we have decided to spread our wings and ask for submissions from people living around the world who have an Irish connection. We would particularly welcome submissions on experiences of Irish people living abroad or travelling, as well as LGBTQ or women’s activism across the world. Whether you have a story that you would like to share, an opinion piece or a profile of an exciting project that you have been involved with we would be delighted to hear about it.
And with Issue 9, we intend to bring the focus back to our communities in Ireland, giving special priority to people outside the well-documented, resource-rich urban areas of Ireland. We are looking for people to talk about what it is like to be LGBTQ in their local region, their town, village or county. Is there a difference between your experiences in rural and urban areas in Ireland? Are some areas more supportive of LGBT lives? What does 'local' mean to you? We know that there are diverse experiences of coming out, creating families and building lives, and we want to hear about them. We would particularly welcome submissions from women and trans masculine spectrum people in rural areas. If you are a group that provides services to local LGBTQ women or trans masculine people in rural communities in Ireland, we would love to profile you and work together to increase the visibility of LGBTQ people outside the big cities.
We would like to call for submissions for both our eighth and ninth issues to highlight the diversity of our LGBTQ women's community at home and abroad. As always, we also encourage you to write about other pressing issues you feel you'd like to write about. And if you want to become a regular writer, talk to us about that! We are always looking for people to come onboard!
The deadline for submissions for issue 8 is May 11th , 2011 and for issue 9 is July 13th.

Tattooed Tongue Press besides being a one person army and a renegade force is a small publishing house mostly dedicated to publishing unknown and emerging women voices, especially lesbians and bisexual women. With a commitment to social justice and human rights Tattooed Tongue strives to make change through the echoing of words. Our mission is to stay small. In staying small we are determined to remain fugitives from the mainstream market economy and prefer to place more emphasis on legitimizing works through the building of networks and communities. Tattooed Tongue also actively encourages and assists individuals to self-publish and/or start their own press thus, eliminating the idea of art as competition. Demeter Press is seeking submissions for an edited collection on Incarcerated Mothers: Oppression and Resistance, Co-Editors: Gordana Eljdupovic and Rebecca Jaremko Bromwich
Publication Date: 2012
A large proportion – and in many jurisdictions the majority – of incarcerated women are mothers. Popular attention is often paid to challenges faced by children of incarcerated mothers while incarcerated women themselves often do not “count” as mothers in mainstream discourse. This anthology will explore complex issues relating to incarcerated mothers, from connections between mothering and incarceration, through criminalization of motherhood to understanding experiences of mothers in prison.
This book will examine the experiences of incarcerated mothers as well as how incarcerated mothers are understood in popular discourse and discounted as good or “real” mothers in Western patriarchal society. We encourage submissions that interrogate popular discourses about mothering, virtue and criminalization and especially those that focus on resistance and agency by incarcerated mothers.
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:

Not sure what steampunk is? Think Victorian elegance and aesthetics meets futuristic invention and exploration. But it doesn’t have to be Victorian (or Edwardian) era—it can be any time period, real or imagined, that blends elements of science, history, fantasy and technology. The one thing the genre has long been missing is romantic relationships and er0tic encounters. Steampunk er0tic romance is shiny brass and crushed velvet; mechanical inventions and romantic conventions.
The steampunk world includes steam engines and scientists, corsets and clockworks, aviators and airships, alchemy and anachronistic technologies—not to mention those damned goggles and gadgets that everyone always references when talking about the genre! Steampunk is a spirit of high adventure that bridges the past and future. It captures the imagination in ways that make the eyes go wide and the heart beat a little faster.
What I do want:
* Stories that embody the essence of steampunk and pay homage to the genre.
* Time travel, alternate histories, “second” or parallel worlds and non-traditional steampunk settings.
What I don’t want:
* Stories that throw in everything but the steampunk kitchen sink.
* Stories that are pure camp. A little campy fun is okay, but don’t overdo it.
* Fan fiction or slash fiction. Do not steal another author’s characters, please.
* Stories that are more about the technology than the characters.
Steampunk often defies definition, but here are some examples of books, television shows and movies that are considered steampunk or contain elements of steampunk:
* The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (comic book series and movie)
* Wild, Wild West (60s television show and 90s movie)
* Sherlock Holmes (the recent movie)
* H.G. Wells’ Time Machine
* Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
* Katie MacAlister’s romance novel Steamed!
* Joss Whedon’s Serenity (television series) and Firefly (movie)
* Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (movie, technically dieselpunk)
* Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere
* The Prestige (movie, technically gaslight romance)

This collection will feature primarily heteros3xual relationships, but stories may include lesbian and bis3xual elements, triads, polyandrous relationships or group encounters.
Stories should be written with a female audience in mind and I have a preference for female point of view. According to Romance Writers of America, a romance must include two key elements: a central love story and an emotionally-satisfying, optimistic ending. So be sure to give me a steampunk story that is er0tic and romantic!
Submission Guidelines:
Unpublished stories only, no simultaneous submissions. The desired story length is 2,500-5,000 words. Double-space and indent the first line of each paragraph. Do not put extra spaces between paragraphs. Include your full contact information (legal name/pseudonym, mailing address and phone number) and a bio of 50 words or less written in the third person. Please paste your story into the body of your e-mail and attach it as a Microsoft Word .doc file.
Payment will be $100 per story and 2 copies of the book upon publication. Contributors retain the rights to their stories. I will notify contributors of their acceptance in June 2011, but please note that Cleis Press has final approval over the manuscript.

Writing for Rainbow Rumpus (Fiction/Poetry)
We’re glad you’re thinking of writing for Rainbow Rumpus! We are creating a new genre of children’s and young adult fiction. Please carefully read and observe the guidelines below.
* Stories should be written from the point of view of children with LGBT parents or other family members, or who are connected to the LGBT community.
* Stories should celebrate the diversity of LGBT-headed families and their communities.
* The primary plot point of the story should not be family structure or children being teased about their families.
* Stories for 4- to 12-year-old children should be approximately 800 to 2,500 words in length. Stories for 13- to 18-year-olds may be as long as 5,000 words.
* Please observe standard manuscript format: 12-point Times, one-inch margins, double-spaced text, and page numbers.
We publish a variety of genres and will consider serialized work. Stories featuring families of color, bisexual parents, transgender parents, and mixed-race families are particularly welcome.
Rainbow Rumpus pays $75 per story on publication. We purchase first North American online rights and may also request the right to post formatted PDF and audio files for free download, and the right to include the story in a print anthology.

Wild Oats Seeks Gay and Bi Fiction
The December Issue will have a history theme (though we also encourage seasonal stories if your muse drives you that way.) As usual, all submissions will be considered, but preference will be given to pieces with these themes. Submissions for the December issue close on the 8th October.
We’re interested in well written gay/bi male-centered fiction with original plots and characters. (See the section above for possible themes for forthcoming issues)
We can’t pay for stories at this time, but we are happy to provide a link to your Web site; include a brief biography to help publicize your work; and provide 'buy buttons' to published work in Amazon, Barnes & Noble or other online publishers. We are here to encourage new writers and to give established writers a place where they can experiment. To help you submit the sort of work we want, we have provided a few details below.
As with any publication, the best way to get a feeling for the kind of stories we want to publish is to read them in our current issue or in the archives.
Please submit all stories as Word file attachments (preferably in .doc format rather than .rtf) or OpenOffice attachments (.odt format), with a cover e-mail giving us your name, your pen name if you use one, and the title and word count of the story. Biphobia - Documentary Looking into Prejudice Toward Bisexuals - UK
This is a student project. Travel expenses will be discussed, but its more likely that we would arrange a filming location in interviewees locations. We want to generate some opinions by email and phone initially so that we can find the best possible interviewees for our film. We would happily except auditions recorded on phones or webcams (or anything you can get your hands on).

Looking for gay, straight and bisexual male and females to give their opinions on bisexuality. We want a range of different views and stories. These interviews wouldn't have to be face on camera, we can conceal identities or even conduct interviews off camera - by recording telephone calls or meeting with a Dictaphone.
