-A journalism degree or equivalent experience
-Clippings from local newspapers (news and/or features)
-Knowledge of local community and/or local LGBT community
-Ability to pitch news stories and/or feature articles with a news hook
-Ability to submit professional quality photos with assigned news stories
-Contacts with local community leaders and/or LGBT community leaders, groups and organizations (or ability to quickly establish them)
-Familiarity with AP style and guidelines.
Pay range for writers is $35 to $65 per article, depending on story complexity, number of story sources, quality of submitted photos and quality of writing.
