Job Description
A leading entertainment news and celebrity Web site seeks a managing editor to help drive editorial operations. Managing editor will be responsible for developing daily coverage plans for breaking news and special events as well as developing and maintaining a robust editorial calendar. Candidate should be able to conceive of mulitple angles of coverage around breaking news events and work quickly with a dedicated team of writers and editors to bring them to life. Ideal editor can also roll up their sleeves and create content where needed. Editor must also be comfortable giving direction to reporters.
Editor must be fluent in all angles of current celebrity culture including all major and minor players and have a firm grasp of today's film, television and pop music space. Editor should have encyclopedic knowledge of past pop culture history.
Ideal candidate brings years of experience working both online and within a print outlet.
Editor will also be working closely with sales team to develop and maintain editorial features sponsored by advertisers.
REQUIREMENTS:
-- Multiple years working online and/or print, preferrably within the entertainment space.
-- Vast experience working with writers on news coverage, trend pieces and op-ed columns.
-- Ease running meetings with small and large groups.
-- Comfort working with freelancers.
-- Strong knowledge of social media trends and SEO best practices.
-- Strong visual sense, with experience working with designers and photo editors.
-- Copy edit experience.
-- Good, varied base of contacts within the field
-- Basic knowledge of HTML, Photoshop
-- Ability to work on early mornings/off-hours/weekends on occasion
-- On-camera experience/media training a PLUS
