Nomination to the Green Carnation Prize Now Open

* Press Releases of nominated titles via email to greencarnation@gmail.com by Friday the 6th of August 2010
* Books sent and received by all judges by Friday 20th of August 2010

Clause for the Prize

Any eligible book which is entered for the prize will only qualify for the award if its publisher agrees:

* To contribute 5 copies of any book put forward for The Green Carnation Prize in order for it to make the longlist and so all judges can read it prior to short listing date late October 2010.

Books Eligible For Entry

* All books including translations are welcome as long as they were published in Hardback or Paperback between 1st of January 2010 and 31st of December 2010 a previous publication of a book outside the UK does not disqualify it.
* Any full-length novel, collection of short stories or memoir written by a gay man is eligible.
* We will accept advance review copies of the book as long as they are due for release before 31st of December 2010 and will be available for judges in proof form by Friday 20th of August 2010
* Authors must be living at the time of the award.
* Self published books are not eligible.
* Books written by any Green Carnation Prize judge will not be eligible.
* Children’s books will not be accepted, however, cross over or ‘young adult fiction’ can be submitted.
* The decision of the Chair of Judges as to whether a book is eligible shall be binding and no correspondence shall be entered into.
* No entry shall be ineligible because its author has won either the prize or any other prize previously.
* Books submitted in hardback for the longlist may be submitted in paperback the following as long as the paperback release date is between 1st January and 31st December the next year.
* All submissions are made on a confidential basis.
* United Kingdom publishers may enter as many submissions as they wish which meet the above criteria with scheduled publication dates between 1st of January 2010 and 31st December 2010.
* Press releases must be submitted by Friday 6th of August 2010.
* Judges will have a preferred list that they may request books from and contact you with regard to these titles.
* No book entered by publishers or called in by the judges will be returned to the publishers.

The Winning Prize

* The prize is taking part and the overall winning of the best body of work by a gay author for the specific year nominated.
* The judges will be responsible for compiling a longlist up to 25 books ‘The Green Caranation Bunch’ followed by a shortlist of five outstanding books submitted for the prize.
* The panel of judges is chosen by The Green Carnation Prize Chair (Paul Magrs) who may consult fellow judges as they are appointed.
