The successful candidate should have a keen sense of writing for various audiences in different media – anything from an issue brief for administration officials to an article for HRC’s membership magazine to a major speech. She or he must be able to conduct research independently and with colleagues, synthesize a variety of sources, and produce cogent and creative arguments. Additionally, the writer must be able to develop messages and taking points based on quantitative and qualitative message research. She or he should have experience in writing in the voice of a principal in order to produce speeches and materials that are authentic to the presenter. The ideal candidate will have experience with LGBT and other social justice issues.
The senior writer will report to the vice president for communications and will work with senior members of the organization and its volunteers on specific assignments.
Candidates should be prepared to present a portfolio of their written work. At a minimum, the ideal candidate should possess exceptional writing talent as well as the communications skills necessary to elicit the right information from a variety of sources. Additionally, the writer must be comfortable working in a high-volume environment with quick project turnaround.
All positions at the Human Rights Campaign and/or the Human Rights Campaign Foundation may require travel on a regular basis or periodically. Where the need arises for business travel, appropriate compensation as outlined by the Fair Labor Standards Act will apply.
