Job Opening: Senior Writer for Faith and Progressive Policy Initiative (Washington, DC)

The Center for American Progress has an immediate opening for a Senior Writer to work with the Faith and Progressive Policy Initiative and related policy and communications teams.

Reports to: Director of Faith and Progress Policy Initiative

Department: Domestic Policy

Staff reporting to this position: None

Position classification: Exempt, full-time

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Write rapid-response posts on pressing faith-related news and issues.
  • Conduct research and write articles on faith-related policy issues, including immigration, poverty, the environment, economic inequality, family and work, LGBT equality, reproductive health and rights, culture, and national security.
  • Conduct research and write major reports and studies on faith-related policy issues.
  • Create and manage social media campaigns.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on joint projects.
  • Other projects as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Excellent research, writing, and editing skills.
  • Expertise on religion, progressivism, policy issues, and politics.
  • Familiarity with faith-based leaders and communities.
  • Strong work ethic, self-starter, creative thinker, flexible writer, and able to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Skilled in team work and collaborating with colleagues.
  • Familiarity with the Faith Initiative and CAP; commitment to their mission and goals.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum three years of experience as a writer/reporter/journalist in relevant field.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Knowledge of HTML, RSS, social networking/bookmarking, and media monitoring.
