SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
- Each playwright and/or director may submit only one script—send us your best!
- We are only accepting electronic submissions in Word format.
- We are looking for short plays that run less than 15 minutes. Less is fine, longer is not. Ten minutes would be ideal.
- The title page should include the playwright's name, the character list and a brief synopsis of the play.
- The title page must also include the company's contact name (if different from playwright), address, phone number and email address.
- Plays should contain no more than 4 characters.
- Set and technical requirements should be fairly simple. We are talking basically lights up and lights down. Your set should also be minimal – a table and two chairs, for example. Nothing is even better!
- Musicals, children’s shows, and any unsolicited longer one-act or full-length plays are not accepted and will not receive a response.
- If selected, each company is responsible to cast and rehearse their own play.
- A tech person will be provided by Gay Play Day for the tech rehearsal and performances.
- Companies are not offered any financial compensation for their involvement, however the festival is a great format to showcase your creative talents.
- A cash prize will be awarded to the play that wins the audience favourite award.
- Gay Play Day is not associated with the Canadian Actors' Equity Association.
- Applicants will be notified of inclusion in the festival by July 10th, 2012.

We’re looking for submissions of original, unpublished stories between 1500 – 2000 words that incorporate our political agenda of challenging mainstream gay and lesbian politics (ie. marriage, military service, and hat3 crimes legislation) into the storyline. We’re always trying to find new ways to animate our politics; what more fun and s3xy way to share our political project than with nau9hty tales of queer d3bauchery and gender terr0rism!?
We want to hear about your wild3st fantasi3s of rauc0us anti-war organizing, lesbian wolf packs fighting to end anti-queer vi0lence (Born in Flames tribute anyone?), trans prison librarians organizing er0tic poetry writing groups, s3ducing marriage equality interns to the dark side, and lots more! ESC: English Studies in Canada invites submissions for a Special Issue on "Childhood and Its Discontents," guest edited by Nat Hurley.
No figure more fully embodies the paradoxical demands of civilization than the child. At once beloved and overdetermined, the child figures nothing less than our most treasured cultural fantasies and so also becomes the repository of our worst fears. Scholars across the fields of children’s literature, queer theory, gothic studies, critical pedagogy, gender studies, and critical race studies increasingly highlight the ways children—and representations of them—exceed (and so flag the limits of) the utopianism governing their very conceptualization. In effect, childhood has become a fascinatingly unruly object of study.
To the extent that discontentment indexes a dissatisfaction with prevailing social and cultural conditions, this special issue on Childhood and Its Discontents invites essays that reflect on childhood’s unruly resistance to the norms, genres, and cultural regimes that aim to normalize it. In the same spirit in which Freud brought to light the counterintuitive instincts that underwrite and undermine the very idea of civilization, so too do we seek essays for this volume that highlight the central tensions at the heart of childhood and its representations.
ESC invites papers for this special issue on “Childhood and its Discontents” from scholars, writers, artists, and activists with an interest in the historical conditions, theoretical implications, and emergent potentialities of the concept of childhood. We accept submissions from any geographical location. The journal seeks to publish a diversity of historical, national, and theoretical perspectives. We warmly welcome interdisciplinary approaches to this topic and are happy to consider essays informed by critical race studies, feminist theory, ethnographic studies, philosophy of education, film studies, queer studies, postcolonial studies, political economy, critical pedagogy studies, and ecocriticism as well as relevant others.
Deadline for submission of articles (maximum of 8500 words) is 18 June 2012.

Call for Submissions for Queer Online Publication: The Qouch
The Qouch, an on-line publication of The Queer Psychoanalysis Society, is looking for submissions from scholars, writers, and artists who do work in the fields of queer studies, gender studies, and/or psychoanalysis. Gender Reel, the east coasts only multi-media festival dedicated to enhancing the visibility of gender non-conforming and transgender images, experiences and artists will be accepting submissions starting 3/15/12 until 6/15/12.
WHERE AND WHEN IS THE FESTIVAL BEING HELD?
This year, Gender Reel will be held at the William Way Community Center in Philadelphia, PA on 9/7/12-9/9/12.
WHO CAN SUBMIT?
Anyone who identifies as a gender non-conforming, gender variant or transgender person, non-GncGVTG indivduals who are doing work about GncGVTG issues, or anyone who's work challenges the gender binary.
This includes, but is not limited to: Transgender people, genderqueers, gender non-conformers, butches, femmes, bois, AG's, queens, kings, men, women, studs, grrls, transsexuals, FTM's, MTF's, trans men, trans women.......
WHAT CAN YOU SUBMIT?
No more than 5 pieces will be accepted from any one artist.
Films can be short or feature length from any genre; documentary, narrative, experimental, animation, etc.,....
All submissions should be made directly through our online submission form at http://genderreelfest.com/?page_id=32.
Decisions regarding acceptance into Gender Reel will be made by our Organizing committee by the end of July, 2012.
Because of funding limitations, GR is unable to cover the cost of travel to and from Philadelphia for artists. Also, we cannot afford to pay shipping costs for individual pieces. However, we are committed to doing what we can do work with artists regarding hardship situations, as well as helping artists from outside the area find a free place to stay when attending the festival.
Any artist who's work is accepted into GR will receive a festival pass, which grants you free admission into the festival, as well as any other festival related event.
Gender Reel is not responsible for any loss or damage to art work and/or films that are sent to us, and/or displayed at the festival itself.

From Stephen: I am looking for LGBT as well as gender-neutral and intersexual themed speculative poems for Issue #5 of Eye to the Telescope. As this can be a touchy subject matter for some, I’m not interested in poetry that is either overtly didactic or—this should go without saying—that perpetuates stereotypes (and although sensual poetry is fine, pure erotica will be a hard sell). That said, I am open to dark humor and poetry that provokes (I’ll trust the poets to figure out the fine line between didactic and provocative and between sensual and erotic).
I would prefer that the LGBT aspect of the poetry be subtle and organic to the poem. As I'd love to highlight as diverse a variety of poetry possible, I’m open to everything from formal/classical forms (haiku, sonnets, etc.) to concrete, Dadaism, abstract, postmodernism, avant-garde, surrealism, bizzaro, or whatever else you have to offer, just as long as the poem is speculative (see definition below) and includes the LGBT theme in some way.

The Gatewood Prize is Switchback Books' annual competition for a first or second full-length (48-80 pp.) collection of poems by a woman writing in the English language. It is named after Emma Gatewood, the first woman to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail.

Brenda Shaughnessy is a poet and editor. Her most recent book, Human Dark with Sugar (Copper Canyon, 2008), won the James Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Her first book, Interior with Sudden Joy (FSG, 1999) was a finalist for the Lambda Award, Norma Farber Award, and the PEN/Joyce C. Osterweil Award. She is the poetry editor of Tin House Magazine, has been a Radcliffe Institute Fellow and a Japan-US Friendship Commission fellow. She teaches at Princeton, NYU, The New School and other institutions and lives in Brooklyn with her husband and son.

- Multiple submissions are acceptable, but each manuscript must be entered under separate cover and fee.
- You must let us know immediately if your manuscript is accepted by another publisher while under our consideration.
- No revisions to submitted manuscripts will be considered; the winning manuscript may be revised before publication.
- Translations ineligible.
- Manuscripts by close friends and former students of the judge are ineligible. If the judge would recognize your manuscript for any reason, please wait until next year to enter the contest.
- Co-written collections are eligible provided both poets meet all eligibility requirements.
- Submissions will be read by Switchback editors and staff members. We will select ten manuscripts to send on to the judge, who will choose the final winner.
- Manuscripts remain anonymous until a winner is selected. Please remove any identifying references from your manuscript (including those in the body of the manuscript).

Since the 1970s, both the content and the institutional practices surrounding er0tic romance fiction have been transformed. The remarkable popularity of E. L. James’s Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy has brought a number those transformations to light, not just in terms of the novels’ BDSM-inflected sexual content (old news in the romance world) but also in their publishing history, moving from online Twilight fan-fiction to e-book format to paperback bestsellers.
Yet the world of er0tic romance fiction extends far beyond Fifty Shades—not just historically and aesthetically, but geographically, racially, and in the range of sexual identities and practices made visible by these texts. The range of critical and scholarly approaches to these texts ought to be equally various, whether looking back to foundational essays like Ann Barr Snitow’s “Mass-Market Romance: Pornography for Women is Different” or drawing on the latest in queer theory and cultural studies.
To that end, the Journal of Popular Romance Studies is looking for essays, interviews, and pedagogical materials on the subject of er0tic popular romance fiction, now and in the past. Essays on individual authors and texts are encouraged, along with work on the business side of the genre—its publishers, its marketing, etc.—and explorations of its reception, including fandom, cens0rship, and the public debates surrounding er0tic romance. All theoretical approaches are welcome. Submissions are due by February 1, 2013, and this special issue of JPRS will be published in December, 2013.
Published by the International Association for the Study of Popular Romance (IASPR), the peer-reviewed Journal of Popular Romance Studies is the first academic journal to focus exclusively on representations of romantic love across national and disciplinary boundaries. We'll leave the time and place up to you, but the focus of your story should be the romantic love between two women, whether it’s a developing affair or an established relationship.
Why not fill in the unwritten chapters of history and show us medieval maidens, Regency belles, Victorians, or wartime women seeking comfort in each other’s arms?
What does the future look like for women who love women? Are they out in space, living on other planets or colonies, human or otherwise? Or still on earth, enslaved or emancipated by new technology, governments, and events?
Or set your story in a world of your own creation, where myths come alive or the supernatural is standard fare. Send your heroines on quests and adventures to prove or discover their love.
Women who love women in fiction rarely get more than an ambivalent ending, so let’s change that. Whatever they have to go through to get there, make sure your characters get their happy ending.

THE DETAILS:
This collection is centered around the theme of a new year and all the potential that comes with it. All stories must have a strong tie to this theme. We are looking for creative stories that bring in this theme, not simply dozens of stories about a New Year’s Eve party (though if you can do that creatively, we welcome it gladly).
Kiss Me at Midnight is a collection of ebooks, meaning each story will be sold as an individual ebook, and readers will also have the option to purchase “bundles” or the entire collection for a reduced rate. Standard ebook royalty rates will apply.

Everybody loves a rockstar. The music, the look, the life—it’s loud and glamorous and wild. From the badboy who can’t stay out of trouble to fresh-faced newbies still getting used to the stage to the softrock boys who actually play nice.
Then there are all the people behind the scenes who keep the rockers on stage: the agents, producers, techs, songwriters, etc. who help bring the music to life. And the fans, who turn the volume up, beg for the encores, and keep the music playing.
Less Than Three Press is seeking stories about the bad boys and girls who make the music and make us want to turn it up and put it on repeat. Got a story for us?
THE DETAILS:
This collection is centered around the theme of rockstars. All stories must have a strong tie to this theme. Any sub-genre is gladly accepted: sci-fi, mystery, contemporary, steampunk, etc.
Rocking Hard will run as one of LT3′s serial anthologies. Stories will run one by one on a biweekly basis, to be compiled into a single anthology at the end of the series. Current examples of serial anthologies are Bad Moon Rising and Something Happened on the Way to Heaven. They’re an extremely popular aspect of our serial stories, as readers like the shorter stories mixed in with some of our longer running works.
Payment will be $200 on acceptance of the story and 5% of gross subscription sales while your story is in the serial rotation. Authors will receive one copy each of the ebook formats LT3 produces and two copies of the paperback compilation.
Stories should be complete before submitting, and as edited as possible. They can be submitted in any format (doc, docx, rtf, odt, etc), preferably single spaced with a space between paragraphs, in an easy to read font (Times, Calibri, Arial) with no special formatting (no elaborate section separation, special fonts, etc).

- Deadline is SEPTEMBER 30, 2012 11:59 EST (GMT -5) (give or take, we won’t kill you for sending it off the following morning).
- Stories should be at least 10,000 words. Anything less is too short to run as a serial, as we post them in 5,000 word sections. They should not exceed approx 50,000 words in length, as we do not like a single story to run for too long.
- Stories must be m/m or f/f romance (threes0mes, etc. are acceptable, but all parties must be the same gender).
- Stories must have a happily ever after (HEA) or happy for now (HFN) end.
- All usual LT3 submission guidelines apply.

WHAT TO WRITE
We want to hear about your own real experiences with religion as someone who identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, questioning, queer or an ally via an essay or poetry. How have you felt supported by or separated from religion as an LGBTIQ or A person?
You may write on direct experiences (for example, how someone supported or criticized you, or someone you care about as an LGBTIQ person, in the name of God), or indirect experiences (for example, someone made a blanket statement about LGBTIQ people in the name of God). Whether your experiences are direct or indirect please express how you have been personally affected.
You are free to choose one or more experiences about which you will write, but you may have a better chance at writing an effective piece if you focus on one experience.
POSSIBLE WRITING PROMPTS
You are not required to answer the following specific questions in your poetry or essay, but some of these questions may assist you in focusing your writing:
1. What do I believe? Do I believe in God or a higher power?
2. How did the experience(s) I’m writing about affect my views on religion(s)?
3. Did my experience(s) draw me closer to God or a higher power or push me away?
4. Have I ever believed that I had to choose between being LGBTIQ or A and my faith?
5. Has/have my experience(s) with religion helped me to accept myself as I am?
6. Are there differences between the way religious people I have met say that God views LGBTIQ people and the way I think God sees us/my family or friends?

2. ONE ENTRY FOR EACH DIVISION (IN YOUR AGE GROUP) PER PERSON.
3. Please read the stated Rules for Submission carefully. If you miss something and there is enough time, we’ll notify you so you can resubmit the corrected entry by the contest deadline (11:59 pm on June 10, 2012).
4. By entering the contest, the authors give permission to Seekardia to publish their submission in a booklet and to make it available to Proud Theater to use verbatim or to create a performance based on the submission (winning entries may or may not be used by Proud Theater). The winning entries may also be posted on the Seekardia web site (winning entries may or may not be posted).

This publication will offer differing voices as the fight for gay marriage threatens to completely envelope all other struggles in the queer community. Inspired by Against Equality: Queer Critiques of Gay Marriage, this publication will focus primarily on Australia and the specific affects the marriage campaign has had on the queer community. Seeking to explore events such as John Howard’s changing of the marriage laws, the normalising of the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, white washing of the queer community and the erasure of trans* folks voices.
Ultimately this will be a publication that tries to carve out a queer future that isn’t seeking a state sanctioned piece of paper. Seeking works from far ranging topics by folks from all across our communities. Some topic ideas/areas of inquiry/inspiration:
- Trans* folk and the marriage debate
- Racism and white privilege in marriage
- Normalised bodies, ability and who is “marriageable”
- Will it “get better”
- Capitalism, the pink dollar and class privilege
