LGBT Heritage Month 2012 Youth Creative Writing Contest (LA County)

Contest theme: Celebrating our past - shaping the future

Guidelines for entry: Submit an original written piece of work to enter in this contest. One entry per participant. Contest is open to all youth grades 6-12 within Los Angeles County.

Requirements: Creative writing must be an original work in the form of a poem,song, story, essay, etc. and not previously published. Entry must be typed on MS word document or on paper, not exceeding one page. PDF files are accepted.

Submissions must include: participant's full name, title of entry, grade level, participant's telephone number and email address, school or organization's name and address, and teacher's full name, telephone number and email.

Awards:
  • 1st place: $1000
  • 2nd place: $600
  • 3rd place: $400

Winners will have an opportunity to perform their winning piece at the LGBT Heritage Month opening ceremony! Awards sponsored in part by Lifeworks.

Terms and conditions: No purchase necessary to enter contest. One entry per participant. Contest is open to all youth grades 6-12 within Los Angeles County. Only winners will be notified via telephone after May 18, 2012, further details of the ceremony will be provided at this time. All entries, including winners’ works, become the property of the City of Los Angeles. The City of Los Angeles has the right to reproduce or publish the written work in any medium for current or future use in educational materials and programs. Selection of winners by the judging panel is final. All questions and concerns related to the Contest should be directed toward the City of Los Angeles at (213) 978-2751.
