Editor Wanted for SDCNN, Publisher of Gay San Diego

San Diego Community News Network, publisher of San Diego Uptown News and Gay San Diego, recently expanded with the acquisition of San Diego Downtown News. SD Downtown News is an award-winning community newspaper serving San Diego's vibrant downtown community.

We are currently seeking an editor who is familiar with the Downtown and Uptown areas, and who possesses excellent writing and editing skills.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES:
  • a college journalism degree or significant equivalent experience
  • at least two years of experience managing a newspaper or periodical experience managing freelance writers and reporters
  • the ability to mine meetings, websites and neighborhoods for news
  • the ability to write compelling news stories, fun features and eye-catching headlines in AP style
  • is organized, professional and a team player, and has good people skills
  • is an energetic idea person who doesn't mind working an occasional evening and attending occasional community events.

OTHER PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • familiarity with WordPress and website operation
  • knowledge of InDesign software
