Acquisitions Editor (Current Events, LGBT Issues, Women's Studies) Wanted for ABC-CLIO Publishing (CA)

We are presently looking for an Acquisitions Editor. The Acquisitions Editor will conceptualize, acquire, and develop new general interest and academic nonfiction books in a broad array of fields related to current events and social issues, including crime, LGBT issues, women's studies, and education. Will contract annually 20-25 volumes in this area.

A creative, energetic professional will manage and advocate for well-established and successful lists, ensuring they make an ongoing and substantial contribution to the success of the print and online publishing programs; follow market trends and opportunities; forge print and electronic strategies; conceive book concepts; contact leading authors; evaluate suitability of proposals for publication; negotiate contracts; maintain good relations with current authors; ensure manuscripts are delivered on time and published according to schedule and budget; interact with the production and marketing departments to ensure appropriate and successful publication; and serve as a key member within the assigned database team.

Editors play a key role in branding our identity in the marketplace: outstanding communication and writing, organizational, and project management skills are required; 1-2 years book-publishing experience is required; database experience is desirable. B.A. in history or related discipline; advanced degree is desirable but not required.
