Description
The Director of Editorial is responsible for shaping the overall editorial voice and content development strategy for the constellation of LOGOonline sites: LogoTV.com, AfterEllen.com, AfterElton.com,Downelink.com, 365Gay.com, NewNowNext.com, and TripOutGayTravel.com. In addition to leading day-to-day editorial efforts, he/she will source talent, develop original video content and vlogs, consult on the creation of show-based video created for the site, and advise on LogoTV.com content programming.
He/she will work closely with the Creative, Multi-platform Programming, Marketing and Original Production teams at Logo on areas of overlap as well as content development and promotion opportunities. He or she will also strike partnerships with external content creators, Logo-related sites, and other MTVN sites. The Director of Editorial will report to the Vice President of Logo Digital.
The three key areas of focus for Logo’s Online Editorial Director are:
o Broadening the audience and editorial scope of all the Logo sites
o Growing traffic through social media, SEO, and editorial partnerships with external sites -- particularly on oursmaller sites whose Unique Users have plateaued
o Providing creative leadership in digital and across the entire Logo organization
Key responsibilities include:
o Oversee all day-to-day editorial operations
o Set and manage overall editorial calendar
o Maintain editorial voice and content quality across all sites, social media accounts and services (e.g., Facebook, Twitter)
o Work with Ad Sales on revenue-generating opportunities
o Partner with external sites to set up link-trading and content sharing deals
o Manage editorial budget
o Source and manage editorial resources -- writers, editors, bloggers, photographers, and photo houses
o Source content from outside the Logo universe that’s relevant for our audience
o Provide editorial leadership and work in collaboration with Product Development, Online Production, and Marketing/Social Media teams
o Arrange and run regular meetings; maintain consistent interdepartmental communication and editorial efficiencies across all sites
o Track and understand performance of editorial content based on traffic, audience engagement, social media metrics, and revenue
Qualifications:
o 8 to 10 years experience working in a dynamic, deadline- and results-oriented environment; demonstrated editorial management skills with both staff and freelancers
o Experience writing/editing for mainstream media outlets that attract gay and lesbian audiences
o Broad knowledge-base across entertainment, news, health, travel and advice
o Proven ability to handle multiple tasks under tight daily and weekly deadlines
o Demonstrated success and audience growth at a large web site
o Excellent editorial skills writing, editing, concepting
o Knowledge and experience with SEO best practices
o Excellent communication and collaboration skills
o Significant contacts in the digital editorial community
