Are you obsessed with movies? Are you the one all your friends go to for the latest movie gossip and info? Can you write to make people laugh—with you, not at you? Movies.com is seeking experienced freelance feature writers who will pitch their best ideas, adhere to deadlines and nail our wry, intelligent and above all, movie-knowledgeable tone. This is not a screenwriting job, a movie reviewing job, or for film scholars who can write 1,500 words on Hitchcock’s camera techniques, so please check out the site (specifically our movie critic Dave White’s reviews) to get an idea of our style and what we cover.

We’re also seeking a movie news blogger with a knack for one-liners who is on top of breaking news and rumors, who may be able to break stories for us. If interested, see Movies.com “Buzz Bin” section and write a sample news item.

Requirements:

  • Min. 5 years’ experience writing or blogging for a major publication or website (sorry, your own personal blog doesn’t count, and no college students/recent grads please)
  • Have a distinctive "voice" and writing style (bonus points for being funny)
  • Knowledge of movies past and present
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Deadline-oriented
  • Easy to work with, easily reachable

Compensation is negotiable but competitive.

If this sounds up your alley, please submit your resume, a brief cover letter that shows off your style and substance, and three of your best writing samples (links or attachments). Also, answer these three questions:
1. Name 1 underrated and 1 overrated movie and in one line tell us why.
2. What are your favorite movie websites?
3. Tweak this generic story idea to make it unique: “The Top 10 Movies of All Time”

Email stacie.hougland@fandango.com with subject line MDC WRITER.

Location: Santa Monica

Compensation: DOE
