Our network runs a monthly poetry show/slam (every 3rd Saturday of the month) at the Q Center in Portland. This show consists of an open mic, a poetry competition (slam), as well as a featured performance. The Q show started in June 2010 and some of the feature performers so far have been poets like Tara Hardy, Ela Barton, Rose Sims, Elaina Ellis as well as others who have done an absolutely fabulous work with inspiring the public to create, dream, live bravely, and fight for their equal rights among many other things.
One other aspect of Q Poetry’s involvement in the community is through various workshops that we organize and help other organizers stage. Currently we’re most involved with SMYRC (running a monthly workshop for queer youth), and Butch Voices (helping organize the Gender/Queer poetry show that is part of the conference).
Because as a social network our biggest focus is the community, I am writing this letter as an invitation to you to explore our website, and if you find anything of value join the community. We would be delighted to see you participate and become one of our valuable members. You can find us at q-poetry.ning.com. We are a network of poets here for the poetry community.
