Atlanta Queer Lit Fest

Post date: 26 July 2010

The fourth annual Atlanta Queer Literary Festival will be held October 13 - 16 at venues in Atlanta and Decatur. The keynote speakers are:

Cary Alan Johnson, executive director of the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission and editor of Go the Way Your Blood Beats: An Anthology of Lesbian and Gay Fiction by African-American Writers. For more about Johnson, visit www.IGLHRC.org.

Jennifer Finney Boylan, a professor at Colby College and author of ten books, including She's Not There: a Life in Two Genders and I'm Looking Through You: Growing Up Haunted. She is also a nationally known advocate for Civil Rights. www.jenniferboylan.net.

Both Johnson and Boylan will speak on Friday, October 15, 7 p.m. at the Auburn Avenue Research Library. Mark your calendars now!

Prior to the main event, the organizers are having a Benefit Show on August 12. The AQLF Benefit Show is part music, part comedy, and all very queertastic. The music line-up includes local favorites KenJ, Lucas Miré and the legendary Bucky Motter, plus keyboard wizards Andy Ditzler and Guyton Maurice, and the debut of Julia Carroll and Amy Lashley's new band, Without a Net. The comedy line-up includes the host of Comedy Night at Eddie's, Alyssa Barnett-Schott, plus newly resurrected heroes Mindy Dawn Friedman and Vivian Alford, and the king of catty, Sanders Hulsey. Taken together, this dirty dozen is the very best in GLBTQ entertainment that Atlanta has to offer. Proceeds from the show will support the 4th Annual Atlanta Queer Literary Festival, bringing amazing queer literature and performance to you for free every October.

Tickets for this unique fundraising event on Thursday, August 12th, are already on sale through the Eddie's Attic website. Advanced tickets are $12, $15 at the door, and it costs $60 to reserve a table for four. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show begins at 7:00pm.
