Write a 1000 – 4000 word essay on The Quest for Brian and win up to $1500.
1. The purpose of the contest is to:
A. Promote sales of The Quest for Brian
B. Foster a more accurate picture of Illinois and national LGBT history
C. Promote more effective LGBT activism through an examination of past activism
D. Foster discussion on the many themes, topics and concepts covered in the novel and the history.
E. Promote literature as a tool for unmasking reality.
2. The specific topic of the essay is open and can, for instance, address any or all of the themes, ironies, literary allusions, philosophy, genre, interpretations, or lessons of the fictional novel, or factual corrections and additions, political philosophy, or eye witness accounts to the actual events.
3. Contest ends December 31st, 2011 and winners will be announced on TheQuestForBrian.com on March 15th, 2012.
4. Essays will be judged on clarity, logical organization, style, content, insight, and originality. Essays on historical corrections and additions will be judged partly on the quality of footnotes and accompanying documentation.
5. Five prizes will be awarded. 1st Prize - $1500, 2nd Prize - $1000, 3rd Prize - $500, 4th Prize - $100, 5th Prize - $50.
