Call for Shorts: The Rainbow Reels Queer Film Festival (Canada)

The Rainbow Reels Queer Film Festival is calling for short film submissions to be part of the Shorts program during the festival, which will take place March 2-6, 2011.

Rainbow Reels is dedicated to featuring queer works that present images of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and trans lives and issues. We look for films that emphasize issues of multicultural diversity and gender and encourage local artists, critics and audiences to participate in the discussion of cultural identities and aesthetics. It is our goal to present the public with an opportunity to see and discuss the thematic, aesthetic and political concerns raised by the work of queer filmmakers.

* Films must be queer-themed or include queer content. That is, they must include images of gay, lesbian, bi & trans lives and issues.
* Films must be 3-15 minutes in length
* Films may be fiction, documentary, animation, experimental or music videos
* Films may have been shot on film, video or HD video
* Films must be submitted on NTSC DVD (the DVD will not be returned)
* Films may be in any language but if not in English must have English subtitles
* Films must have been produced from 2008-2011
* Preference will be given to films that have not been screened at festivals previously
* Films should be submitted with a press kit including information on the film, filmmakers and performers. Electronic press kits can be submitted to info@wpirg.org
* Be sure to include contact information with submission
* Submissions must be received no later than February 1, 2011 to be considered for entry
* Awards will be given to short films in the following categories:
o Peoples’ Choice (short)
o Best Student Film (short)
o Best Animated Film (short)
o Best Foreign Language Film (short)
o Best Documentary Film (short)
o Best Fiction Film (short)
o Best Music Video (short)
