Call for Papers

The Institute for Women’s Studies at the University of Georgia welcomes proposals for its third annual Women and Girls in Georgia Conference, to be held in Athens, Ga. Saturday, October 2, 2010. The theme of this year’s conference is Women and Politics. The conference, focused on feminist research concerning the women and girls of our state, is open to academics, advocates, activists, and community members. The conference will include presentations of cutting-edge scholarship, reports from the ield, and opportunities for networking and political strategizing.
We encourage submissions that engage the intersections of gender, sex, and other dimensions of identity, and that recognize the diversity of women and girls (e.g. women and girls of color, immigrants, lesbians, queer women, women and girls with disabilities, women and girls in rural communities). We also especially welcome presentations that include applied research, service learning, and student participation.We seek individual papers, group panels, workshops, and other formats.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

o Immigration Politics
o Reproductive Policies and Politics
o Political Representation of Women and Abortion
o Political Representation of Women in Rural Communities
o Political Representation of Women
o Politics in Rural Communities
o Women at Work
o Religion and Politics
o Women in Georgia Politics, Historical and Contemporary Perspectives

We welcome qualitative, quantitative, theoretical, and other feminist approaches.
Proposals should include a one-page abstract, and names and afiliations of all participants.
